Update on CETAG’s strike, National Secretary Grants Interview to Akina Radio in Techiman

In a new development, the ag. national secretary of CETAG, Mr. Thomas Ampomah, has today granted an interview to Akina Radio in Techiman to answer questions about the strike action of CETAG which was initiated on Friday, June 14, 2024. The strike is now in its fifth day. In the interview, Mr. Ampomah reiterated CETAG’s stance to see all the arbitral awards issued by the National Labour commission (NLC) enforced before their members would return to work.
According to Mr. Ampomah, the arbitral awards that were issued by the NLC on May 2, 2023 have not been implemented by the employer after more than a year. He further disclosed that CETAG embarked on a strike in August 2023 on the same issue. After calling off the strike upon NLC’s instruction, they have written three letters to the NLC requesting it to compel the employer to comply with the arbitral awards but to no avail. Two issues from the arbitral awards are compensation for additional work done in 2022 and payment of university rates of generic allowances to college teachers. He added that the union has even sacrificed one year of their Conditions of Service (CoS). Listen to the interview below for the details.
